Located in Royal Oak, MI, ArborOakland Group is a commercial printer that has evolved over time into a full service marketing solutions provider. While printing remains the bulk of their business, they now provide digital marketing solutions, large format printing, promotional products, direct mail and fulfillment and much more. OaklandArbor Group’s positioning theme is simply “Speak Visually” since allowing people and businesses to accomplish that fete sums up their product and service offerings. They view vendor relationships as partnerships and strive for an employee-centric reputation.
Today’s commercial printing environment allows for the use of high speed production printers for jobs once reserved for multi-color offset printing presses. They have the speed and production quality of the printing presses but don’t require lengthy set-up time, aren’t noisy and filthy and are very easy and efficient to operate. The problem is making sure there’s a reliable service organization standing behind the products and one that understands not just the complexity of the hardware and software, but one that realizes the importance and timeliness of service. When these machines aren’t performing to expectations, ArborOakland isn’t just losing revenue, they could potentially be losing customers. One might think that acquiring these sophisticated printers directly from the manufacturer would be the least expensive upfront cost and fewer hassles than going through a third party or dealer. According to ArborOakland’s Operations Manager, Dave Hamilton, nothing could be further from the truth.
Applied Imaging was selected over a large group of competitors that included several manufacturer-direct organizations, including Canon and Ricoh, manufacturers represented by Applied Imaging. A Ricoh Pro C9110 Color Production Press was placed and became that model’s first placement in Michigan. In fact, ArborOakland acquired it before Ricoh even launched it. Hamilton indicated the product had little bearing on their decision since Ricoh Direct was also involved. It was a combination of an “amazing service team” and knowledgeable sales people that made Applied Imaging their choice. Another significant factor was Applied Imaging’s culture and how it has led to multiple recognitions of being one of Michigan’s best and coolest companies to work for on both sides of the state. Arbor Oakland Group felt they could learn from a partnership with Applied Imaging’s people.
In the past year, Applied Imaging has on several occasions proved that their selection was a great one. They have gone over and above the norm to make sure ArborOakland Group delivers on its promises to their customers. Those incidents may be seamless to the customer, but ArborOakland Group has already switched to Applied Imaging for service on large format printers and other products that were acquired from different vendors.

“Applied’s service team is amazing, that’s a distinguishing factor for them. And it allows me to avoid any stories or excuses that no one wants to hear. The flexibility, the partnership, the can-do attitude. It’s all about being a partner with us.”
David Hamilton, Operations Manager
