The path of life is not always an easy one; sometimes it takes us on unexpected twists and turns, other times it’s a little blurry and hard to navigate but we keep on going. For some of us, though, we may come to a point where our path seems to be completely blocked. There sits this huge, immovable boulder and, no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to make it budge. What do you do then?

In November of 2014, Ken Cottrell was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. Chemotherapy became his routine for the next six months. And in the following six weeks, radiation took over his day to day. All in hopes that he would one day be able to walk away from his final doctor visit and his path would be clear once again.

But in October of 2015, Ken found his boulder. He went back to his Doctor who gave him a CAT scan to see how he had progressed. The news he received then was something no one could prepare for. His cancer had metastasized in his lungs and had developed to stage 4. The diagnosis was terminal. Even with the help of dozens, this boulder wouldn’t budge.

But the Cottrell’s aren’t giving up; they’re now looking towards a combination of traditional and holistic healing that they’ve discovered through endless research. Dr. James Forsythe at Century Wellness Clinic in Reno Nevada offers a treatment that utilizes a homeopathic supplement; in these clinical trials alone they have seen an effective healing response in 72% of Forsythe’s patients. Traditional Chemotherapy alone only initiates a 3% response rate in patients. Unfortunately, this type of treatment is not covered by the families insurance.

Until now, nothing has been able to stop Ken and his family. Through the pain, fear and discomfort, Ken walks through the front door of Applied Imaging each morning with a smile on his face and a hello to everyone he sees. This family has fought every minute of every day to move all that stands in their way on the path to the cure. But now they need our help.

On April 22nd at The Immaculate Heart of Mary in Grand Rapids, we will be hosting The Cottrell Derby Benefit. Wear your derby best, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and adult beverages while betting on your favorite horse all while showing your support. Try out your luck and see if you can win big $$$ (winners for each race will be awarded cash.)

The Cottrell family has given their all to beat this disease and now it’s our turn to join the fight. Together, we can raise the money Ken needs to get this life altering treatment. Together, we can move this boulder.
